Conceptions of Curriculum

Main take away from unit one

The Conceptions and Aspects of Curriculum are covered in unit one of the module. Conceptions of curriculum can be used to look at a curriculum through various viewpoints. Curriculum mainly focuses on social and culture needs, the individuals needs or subject matter. According to curriculum developers and teachers who have varying perspectives on what curriculum is concerned with and what it should be attempting to accomplish, there are basically seven conceptions of curriculum: cognitive processes conception, humanistic conception, social reconstructionist conception, technological conception, academic subject conception, eclectic concepts, and curriculum as a manipulative strategy.

The term "curriculum" refers to both the plans created for directing learning in schools, which are typically represented in documents that can be retrieved and range in generality, and the implementation of those plans in the classroom, as experienced by the students and documented by curriculum developers, especially teachers; these experiences take place in a learning setting that also affects what is learned.

The most interesting and relatable learnings or topic from the unit

Most fascinating thing about this particular topic on the conceptions of curriculum, the different educational philosophies and curriculum designs is, it can be used as a tool for analyzing planning, instruction and assessment in different professional settings. At any setting, educators can view the content, the subject matter, the role the teachers play, how educators format the curriculum, teaching style and the evaluation and assessment procedures used. By analyzing these elements educators can see what view is being taken to develop, organize and present the curriculum to students. Using the conceptions, philosophies and curriculum designs to analyze teaching professional context, it allows to understand deeper into how educators plan and implement program plans and assess the children.

The least interesting thing from the unit

·         Curriculum is the root of entire educational process without curriculum we cannot consider any educational effort.

·         The Curriculum is the underlying basis of teaching and learning or a pathway towards an educational goal.
